Peristaltic Pump–Assisted Fat Harvesting & Closed-Circuit Grafting by Christopher Nichols, MD and Daniel Albershardt, MD
Explore an innovative approach to autologous fat transfer.
Published in Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum, this preliminary report describes a peristaltic pump–assisted technique for fat harvesting and grafting based on five years of clinical experience across more than 160 aesthetic and reconstructive procedures. The technique uses a reversible, closed-circuit system to provide controlled aspiration and reinjection while minimizing direct tissue handling and air exposure.
The article explores the technique’s procedural workflow and potential advantages, including controlled pressure, continuous bidirectional flow, reduced tissue manipulation, and a streamlined transition from fat harvest to reinjection. The technique was used across multiple treatment areas, including the face, breast, and body, with the AYON Body Contouring System among the peristaltic pump platforms described.
